Ladies Day at Newmarket is held on 7th July 2016 at the Adnams July Course. The first race commences at 1pm and the last race is at 5:30pm. Ladies day at Newmarket is the “hottest ticket of summer” and only the finest attire is worn. Enjoy brilliant racing as well as beautiful fashion! The “Best Dressed Lady” is a fierce competition and you have to be in it to win it!
2016 is a special year for racing at Newmarket as this marks 350 years of horse racing as well as English Heritage! Newmarket is the town where horse racing (the sport of the kings) was born and began three and a half centuries ago.
The town plate race was made a law by King Charles II and the race must run forever. The town plate race is still staged on the same three and three quarter mile race course that was originally used three and a half centuries ago. The town plate’s race course (Round Course) is the one and only time the course gets used each year.
There are two main enclosures at Newmarket and they couldn’t be more different.
The Premier Enclosure is very much traditional. The dress code is ‘smart’ for the Premier enclosure. Men often wear suit trousers with a shirt and smart shoes. Jeans are allowed however are not commonly worn. Ladies often opt for a hat although this is not compulsory.
The Grandstand & Paddock and Family Enclosures are much more relaxed. Shorts and t-shirts are often worn by those wanting to enjoy the sun and have fun. The only exception for this is slogan t-shirts are not permitted and you must not go topless. Ladies may wear a small fascinator in these enclosures as it is nice to get dressed up and look the part.
